Telmo Rodríguez Gaba do Xil O Barreiro 2024 is een witte Valdeorras met een veel duidelijker focus op herkomst dan op brede, algemene druifstijl. Deze wijn komt volledig uit O Barreiro, een herstelde eigen wijngaard in Larouco, en wordt gemaakt van eigen druiven, met Godello als dragende basis en rijping op de lies voor extra textuur. Juist die combinatie van perceel, kleiige leisteenbodems en een Atlantisch klimaat met continentale invloed geeft deze wijn zijn strakke lijn, lengte en verzorgde spanning.

Wijngaarden en regio

Bij deze wijn draait alles om O Barreiro in het zuiden van Valdeorras.

  • Ligging / Herkomst: O Barreiro ligt in Larouco, binnen D.O. Valdeorras in Galicië. Dit deel van de streek combineert Atlantische frisheid met een meer continentaal karakter, wat de wijn een mooie balans tussen spanning en rijpheid geeft.
  • Bodem: De wijngaard staat op kleiige leisteenbodems. Die ondergrond geeft structuur en helpt mee aan de lange, evenwichtige opbouw van de wijn.
  • Klimaat & invloeden: Jaargang 2024 verliep warm en stabiel, zonder extreme hitte, maar met veel vocht in winter en voorjaar. Dat zorgde voor ziektedruk en lagere opbrengsten, terwijl zorgvuldig werk in de wijngaard de druiven gezond richting de oogst bracht.
  • Wijngaard & oogst: O Barreiro omvat 20 ha, waarvan 16 ha is aangeplant met witte rassen en 4 ha met blauwe rassen. Er wordt traditioneel gewerkt en de druiven worden met de hand geoogst in kleine kistjes.

Vinificatie en rijping

De kelderaanpak blijft hier bewust precies en terughoudend, zodat de wijngaard centraal blijft staan.

  • Oogst & Selectie: De handmatige pluk in kleine kistjes helpt om het fruit gaaf en zorgvuldig in de kelder te krijgen.
  • Vergisting: De vergisting verloopt met inheemse gisten. Dat past goed bij een wijn die sterk leunt op herkomst en perceelkarakter.
  • Rijping / Houtopvoeding: Na de vergisting rijpt de wijn meerdere maanden op de lies. Dat geeft extra textuur, meer samenhang en een langere, verzorgde opbouw in het glas.

Druivensamenstelling

Godello vormt de kern van deze wijn, aangevuld met lokale druiven uit dezelfde wijngaard.

  • Godello – Valdeorras: Godello vormt de dragende basis en geeft de wijn zijn structuur, spanning en lengte.
  • Lokale druiven – Valdeorras: De aanvullende lokale rassen geven extra nuance en helpen de wijn nog sterker te verankeren in zijn herkomst.

Proefnotities en serveertips

In het glas proef je een witte Valdeorras met duidelijke spanning, verfijnde textuur en een lange, strakke lijn. De rijping op de lies geeft extra ronding en samenhang, terwijl de combinatie van Godello, kleiige leisteen en frisse herkomstinvloed het geheel precies en evenwichtig houdt. Dit is een verzorgde, serieuze witte wijn met lengte en veel focus.

  • Serveertemperatuur: 10–12 °C werkt hier het best, omdat dat bereik de spanning en frisse lijn bewaart en tegelijk genoeg ruimte laat aan de textuur van de wijn.
  • Gerechten: Gegrilde witvis, schelp- en schaaldieren, verfijnde rijstgerechten en lichte gerechten met romige sauzen sluiten hier bijzonder goed op aan.

Decent Light Bars, But More Options in the App

The Govee RGBIC Light Bars are pretty decent overall. The lights are bright and add a nice atmosphere behind the TV. The 15-inch bars fit well for a TV setup in the 45–70 inch range, and the different placement options make it easy to set them up the way you want. They do have some regular lighting settings you can use without connecting to the app, which is convenient if you just want simple colors. Setup is fairly easy and they look clean behind the TV. That said, I do wish there were more options available without having to rely on the app. The basic settings work fine, but it would be nice to have a few more built-in modes. Overall, they’re solid lights that look good and work well, especially if you like adding ambient lighting to your TV area.

Great not only for TV Backlighting, but shelf lighting too!

Right off the bat, these light bars are vibrant, colorful, and have a great variety of different colors and patterns. However, I used them for a little bit of a different purpose than what they were created for... I had previously purchased the TV backlight strips from Govee, and wanted to find lighting for my shelves within the Govee ecosystem. Traditional light strips wouldn't really work unless I spliced them, which I wanted to avoid. Enter these light bars. I bought 2 sets of them, and thanks to the (quite strong) mounting options, was able to mount and angle these lights downwards to create a really cool effect over my displays. I wasn't sure how well it was going to work, but the end results speak for themselves. It looks terrific when used in this role. The cables are very long and manageable too, I was able to run them down the support beams of the shelves with some mounting clips without issue. The only negative comes down to the app itself. It's a bit overwhelming and confusing to use at first, but once you get the basic functions figured out, there's little issue. Still, I feel the user experience could be improved on the app. For example, I had to go in and create my own shortcut function to turn on all my lights at once, then make a separate one to turn them all off at once, as opposed to there being a single master on/off button in the app. It's small things that can make the app tedious to work with. Regardless, I feel that overall Govee continuous to knock it out of the park. The lights are bright, customizable, and add a ton of ambience to the room. I hope Govee continues to expand on their different room lighting options and keep the level of quality they are putting out now.
