Wat dit schilderij zo bijzonder maakt, is hoe Cézanne vormen heeft weergegeven. Hij gebruikte geen echte lijnen om de randen van de vruchten te maken, maar maakte ze met kleine penseelstreken. Hierdoor lijken de vruchten bijna driedimensionaal, alsof ze echt uit het doek naar voren komen.
