En dat is zonde want Oostenrijk heeft op het gebied van wijn zo ontzettend veel te bieden. Vooral de wijnen van Stift Klosterneuburg zijn een ware buitencategorie. Dit wijnhuis, wat zijn oorsprong al in 1114 zag, heeft een indrukwekkende staat van dienst. Ter ere van hun 900-jarig (!) bestaan brachten zij een speciale blend uit. Met Stift Kloster Neuburg Cuvee Patronis wordt aan iedereen laten zien dat Oostenrijk ook een kei is op het gebied van rode wijnen.

De wijnen van Stift Kloster Neuburg

Het wijnhuis werd al opgericht in de 12e eeuw. Het was Graaf Leopold III die in 1114 opdracht gaf tot de bouw van het klooster aan de rand van Wenen, welke later het kloppende hart zou worden van wijnhuis Stift Klosterneuburg. Nog steeds zijn de wijngaarden rondom het klooster van levensbelang; echter vind je hier voornamelijk de witte druivenrassen. Op het domein Tattensdorf, gelegen in de deelregio Neder-Osterreich, is er vooral de heerschappij van de blauwe druivenrassen. De druiven voor Stift Kloster Neuburg Cuvee Patronis komen van de Thermenregion wijngaard. Hier groeien onder andere de St. Laurent en de Zweigelt. Samen met de ‘headliner’ Merlot vormen zij de ideale basis voor Stift Kloster Neuburg Cuvee Patronis.

Na de oogst en de vergisting rijpt het geheel maar liefst 20 maanden in houten vaten. Hiervan is een eerlijke verdeling van gebruikt en nieuw eiken. Na deze haast iconische houtlagering heb je het meest gulle boeket van alle Oostenrijkse wijnen. Wilde bessen, zure kersen, welke bijzonder mild en soepel overkomen. Het weelderige palet ontploft haast op je smaakpapillen, waardoor de smaak tegen het zoete aan schuurt. Desondanks blijft de smaak van Stift Kloster Neuburg Cuvee Patronis heerlijk delicaat.

So, as other reviewers make clear, this is very similar to Pack Darling and The Beta. It’s much closer aligned with The Beta, in plot and maybe more like Pack Darling with characters. That being said, I don’t hate this…..but it wasn’t great either. It’s both books mentioned but just….less. Less angst, less emotion, less feeling. The plot feels very half fleshed out, and the “bad guy” feels underwhelming. I didn’t really feel any real emotions from and of the male leads, except maybe Oliver. The others fell sorta flat for me. And Mika makes herself out to be this big bad ass straight outta training and then we never see it from here again with the one fitting room incident as the exception. SPOILER: The whole, “Oh, I’m actually probably an Omega, but I don’t wanna be but I do actually wanna be but no one can ever know my secret that I do nothing to hide “ thing fell so flat. She never commutes to believing she was secretly an omega, but also mentions her “secret” a lot. It just felt so manufactured. I’m intrigued enough to read part 2 and see how the author closes everything out, but this is not one I’ll recommend or ever come back to.
