Tegelijk laaft ze zich aan de uitgestrektheid, aan blije honden en kleurrijke schelpen. In de ruimte tussen dijk en zee mijmert Verbeke over haar eigen herinneringen aan zeevakanties, de rol van de zee in haar werk, het verzonken Doggerland en Testerep, over Belgische kunstenaars die aan de kust woonden, en de onkenbare wereld onder het wateroppervlak.
