RARE EARLY ’70s BRONZE ABSTRACT PLANTER BOX BY McCARROLL & GILLESPE FOR FORMS+SURFACESFour panels of bonded bronze, designed by Billy Joe McCarroll and David Gillespe for FORMS+SURFACES of California, adorn this unlined wooden planter box. Four panels of bonded bronze, designed by Billy Joe McCarroll and David Gillespe for FORMS+SURFACES of California, adorn this unlined wooden planter box. Heavely textured, “impasto” abstractions, seemingly formed by haphazard strokes from a trowel or palette knife, decorate four sides of the cube, mimicking the application of Venetian plaster. Produced in the 1970s.

Bonded bronze, aka cold cast bronze, is made by pouring a mixture of liquid polymer resin and powdered bronze into a mold. The resulting material is durable and has the look of metal without its weight. It can serve as a relatively affordable alternative to solid bronze for sculptures and architectural elements.

BILLY JOE McCARROLL (b. 1937) is a Postwar American artist, primarily recognized for creating Mid-Century Modern sculptural doors. His work was mainly produced in California during the late 1960s and early 1970s in collaboration with fellow artist DAVID GILLESPE. Their pieces, which also include bars and other furniture, are characterized by textured surfaces and geometric abstraction, and are often said to embody the Brutalist aesthetic. McConnell and Gillespe frequently used materials like bonded-bronze resin, hammered copper, and lacquered wood. Their most famous creations were the Heroic Sunburst doors, which feature a distinct carved sunburst pattern, and were produced by FORMS+SURFACES in the early ’70s. McCarroll holds an MA in Visual Art from California State University.

FORMS+SURFACES is recognized as a top designer and manufacturer of architectural and outdoor products for public environments. They offer a diverse selection of architectural surfaces, elevator interiors, site furniture, and lighting fixtures that blend beauty with utility to enhance the appeal of public spaces.

While the earliest history of the company remains somewhat murky, a consensus seems to support the thesis that it evolved out of the wood-panel carvings of California-based industrial designer Evelyn Ackerman (1924–2012), work that became the basis of the company Panelcarve that she established with her husband Jerome Ackerman (1920–2019) in the 1960s, in partnership with Los Angeles architect Sherrill Broudy (1923–2015). Despite these California origins, F+S was, to some degree, “re-founded” in 1968 in Pittsburgh, Penn. Jeffrey Stork (b. 1959) has been listed as President, CEO, and owner since at least 2001.

With over fifty years of experience, FORMS+SURFACES remains rooted in innovation, craft, and sustainable materials. In 1972, its first bonded-bronze panels were installed at an office building in suburban Chicago. (F+S bonded metals are composite materials that combine metal granules with a polymer matrix, creating an extremely durable product that has the look of solid metal, but is lightweight.) When the building underwent a redesign more than five decades later, the panels were retained due to their condition and timeless aesthetic. In 2016, the legendary Joel Berman Glass Studios of British Columbia were acquired to expand F+S’s glass product lines and rechristened BermanGlass as a subsidiary.

FORMS+SURFACES also produces long-lasting outdoor furnishings: benches, tables, planters, and trash receptacles; precision-crafted LED lighting solutions; and architectural hardware such as door pulls and plates. Their products are featured in a wide range of public and commercial settings, including airports and hotels, office buildings and universities, hospital facilities and parks.

FORMS+SURFACES is committed to sustainability, using green materials and finishes in many of its products.

Pro-Level Speed & Precision in One Mouse 🎮⚡
This mouse is absolutely amazing. The Logitech G PRO X2 SUPERSTRIKE is incredibly lightweight, fast, and precise. You can feel the difference immediately, especially in competitive games where every movement matters. The clicks are super responsive and customizable, which gives you better control during gameplay. The sensor is extremely accurate with no lag at all. Battery life is excellent, and the USB-C charging makes it very convenient. Overall, it feels like a premium, pro-level gaming mouse. If you’re serious about performance, this is definitely worth it.

Super lightweight and smooth for gaming
Really enjoying this mouse so far. It feels super light in the hand and moves very smoothly while gaming. The clicks are responsive, and the wireless connection has been stable with no lag issues. Battery life also seems pretty good. The shape is comfortable even during longer sessions. The only thing I would improve is adding a little more grip texture on the sides, but overall it’s an excellent gaming mouse.

Really great mouse, but terrible skates.
I absolutely loves this mouse. I usually have stuck to only using razer mice in the past. However I made the switch to this one and its honestly so great. I only really have one complaint and the rest is amazing. Pros: Battery life is honestly amazing. Its really quiet because it no longer clicks, its just haptic feedback like the ps5 controller. You can adjust when it actually clicks which is super cool just like a Hall effect keyboard, because it's the same tech. Mouse just feels great and the included grips are nice, but they do take some getting used to as they aren't what I was expecting. However I have come to like them. Cons: It's vey expensive for a mouse, there's a lot of competition and a variety of mice esp way cheaper. The stock skates are absolutely terrible, that's why I changed them jade's and now its perfect. No complaints after that. However for a mouse this expensive, I was hoping for better skates. I also don't really like the scroll wheel, to be fair I do come from razer mice so that might be why I hate it. It also takes some getting used to as the mouse is front heavy because of the switches on the mouse, but I bet you can fix that if you have a powerplay to balance it out. However I have this mouse for 2 months now and I absolutely love it and I wouldn't switch for another. The only thing I would change if you were buying this mouse today is to also order skates so you can replace them. Would be a 5/5 if it weren't for the terrible skates. TL;DR: Great mouse if purchasing, buy skates as well.

Huge Upgrade!!!
After just a week of using this mouse, I can confidently say this is the best peripheral purchase I have ever made. I initially wasn't in the market for a new mouse, until my scroll wheel broke on my razer mouse. I decided to just pull the trigger on the X2 Superstrike instead of purchasing another razer mouse. The mouse material feel is excellent, and the wheel is great as well. I've also seen some reviews disliking the skates on the X2 Superstrike, however I personally found them to be great. The haptic feedback mouse click seemed a bit gimmicky before I actually used it. Right off the bat, the mouse click feels incredibly responsive and similar to that of any high quality mouse. You get enough feedback and it doesn't feel that much different from a regular mouse click. But, you also have optionality to adjust a ton of settings, like accuation, feedback strength, etc. For gaming, with the right settings, this genuinely feels amazing, and that's before the performance upgrade. As many other reviewers have noted, it noticeably decreases latency on top of all of this. Another huge perk with this mouse I found, was that it's almost dead silent as well. No more loud clicking! My only critique with the mouse are the side buttons and the size. The side buttons are the only part of the mouse that feel "cheap". Because I use the side buttons often in competitive games, I notice it a lot more than probably most people would. I also have large hands, and this is the smallest mouse I have used. I got used to it pretty quick, but the mouse is on the smaller side. Nonetheless, if you are looking to upgrade your mouse and have the money, I would 100% recommend. This feels as impactful as going from a 60hz monitor to a 144hz+.

Works so well I got a second one!
Size: One Size
I rarely write reviews but I came here specifically because this mouse is great! As someone who is technologically challenged I appreciate everything about it-- I bought one of these 5 years ago and use it heavily everyday, it still works like a dream which is why I bought a second one to use on a separate computer. Started using this new one and it was just as easy to set up as the first one, just plugged in the USB piece and was able to use it immediately, no further setup required. As a bonus, it already came with batteries like the last one did (by the way I never turn off my 5 year old mouse and the same batteries are still in it working great). Smooth operation, ergonomic, easy to use, and portable!
