Description:
Implanting the human body with human/animal organs or implantable devices not only changes what you are but also changes who you are.
If you were in need of an organ transplant, would you prefer organs from other humans or non-human animals, or would you choose a 'cybernetic' medical implant? Using a range of social science methods and drawing on the sociology of the body, biomedicine and technology, this book asks whether alterations in subjectivity are reported from organ transplant recipients in cases of non-human animal transplants and implantable devices. Haddow interviews those who live with 'mechanical implants' in the form of 'implantable cardiac devices' in order to understand what changes, if any, had occurred. She concludes that the reliance on 'cybernetic' medical devices create 'everyday cyborgs' who can experience alienation from the mechanical implant at implantation and activation. Embodiment and everyday cyborgs invites readers to consider the relationship between personal identity and the body, between humans and non-human animals, and our increasing dependency on 'smart' implantable technology. The creation of new techno-organic hybrid bodies makes us acutely aware of our own bodies and how ambiguous the experience of embodiment actually is. It is only through understanding how modifications such as transplantation, amputation and implantation make our bodies a 'presence' to us, Haddow argues, that we realise our everyday experience of our bodies as an absence.

Another Berkshire Favorite!
So soft and silky and warm and, oh the butterscotch color is such a perfect fall color! No static either! It does come rolled and sealed with plastic in a box, which I appreciate because you know you’re not getting something someone used and returned; all the Berkshire products I’ve bought come this way and while things being squished and sealed in plastic normally irritate me I approve of it here because Amazon is notorious for sending out used dirty crap and no one wants that in a blanket. Luckily with Berkshire I feel assured I’m always getting something new. Maybe that’s because the products are so high quality no one wants to return them (I know I don’t)! Or maybe they don’t allow returns, I don’t know. Sorry random tangent! But anyway, buy this for you, your friends, your pets, a stranger on the street! I don’t know, but I’m pretty sure the soft cozy feeling of this blanket could ensure world peace if everyone has one because everyone would be cozy and comfy and happy. Well maybe not everyone there’s always someone who has to complain. But not this girl. Because I’m cozy, comfy, and happy under my awesome blanket while I write this review!

Great!
It was great and soft! Very warm so maybe not a summertime blanket if it gets really warm by you! It’s really pretty and looks just like the pictures!

Pretty not practical
Size: Queen (90"x90"), Color: Tiger Print Brown
I want to like this blanket because it’s soft and pretty but it’s unfortunately one of the most annoying blankets I’ve ever had. I got this blanket to replace my comforter for summer because it’s too hot and this blanket wouldn’t be. Well because or of it’s soft underneath and the fact that the two layers are only sewn together at the edges all night long it rolls into itself and won’t stay in place. I’ve tried tucking it under my mattress but by morning my bottom half is freezing while my top half sweats because the entire blanket will have slid up.
