951-05444 / 175SC Snowblower Carburetor Assembly

Key Features

  • Precision Fuel-Air Mixing: Specifically calibrated to provide the optimal air-to-fuel ratio for high-performance 175cc and 179cc OHV engines, ensuring consistent power delivery under heavy snow loads.
  • Cold-Weather "Quick-Start" Engineering: Features internal jetting and primer interfaces optimized for sub-zero temperatures, allowing for reliable one-pull starts in harsh winter conditions.
  • Corrosion-Resistant Aluminum Alloy: Manufactured from high-grade aluminum to resist the internal oxidation and "varnishing" typically caused by ethanol-blended fuels and moisture.
  • Direct Huayi 175SC Specification: Engineered as a 1:1 dimensional and functional match for the factory-original Huayi 175SC and 170SD carburetors used across the MTD family of brands.
  • Optimized Idle Stability: Designed to eliminate engine "hunting" or surging, providing a smooth and steady idle that prevents the engine from stalling when the snowblower's auger is engaged.

Replaces / Cross-Reference Part Numbers

  • MTD (Cub Cadet / Troy-Bilt / Craftsman / Yard Machines): 951-05444, 651-05444, 751-05444
  • Huayi: 175SC

Compatibility & Fitment

This carburetor is a standard component for many walk-behind snowblowers and snow throwers manufactured by MTD. Key compatible brands include:

  • Troy-Bilt: Fits various Storm series snowblowers including the Storm 2410, Storm 2420, Storm 2620, and Storm 2690.
  • Cub Cadet: Compatible with various 2X and 3X series units (e.g., 2X 24", 2X 26", and 2X 524WE).
  • MTD / Yard Machines / Yard-Man: Fits dozens of 179cc and 175cc OHV engine models produced under the MTD umbrella (e.g., 31A-32AD706, 31AS2P5C711).
  • Craftsman: Direct fit for many 24-inch and 26-inch snow throwers with the 179cc engine platform.
  • Note: Always verify your engine's model number and the specific carburetor code (often stamped 175SC or 170SD on the side) before ordering.

When to Replace

  • Snowblower Won't Start: The most common symptom; stale gas from the previous season has "varnished" inside the carburetor, clogging the tiny internal passages and the main jet.
  • Engine Surging (Hunting): The engine speed fluctuates up and down at idle or under load, indicating a "lean" condition caused by a partially blocked pilot jet.
  • Runs Only on Choke: The carburetor is too dirty to provide a proper fuel mixture, and the engine dies as soon as you move the choke to the "Run" position.
  • Leaking Gasoline: The internal float is stuck or the needle valve is worn, causing fuel to drip from the air intake or the bottom of the fuel bowl.
  • Black Smoke / Fouled Spark Plug: Indicates the carburetor is running too "rich" (too much fuel), which wastes gasoline and leads to poor engine performance and carbon buildup.

Installation Tips

  • Safety First (CRITICAL): Work in a well-ventilated area. Drain the fuel tank and fuel lines completely before removing the old carburetor to avoid gasoline spills.
  • Document the Linkage (PRO TIP): Take a photo of the governor linkage and throttle springs before you disconnect them. Getting these springs back into the correct holes is essential for proper engine speed control.
  • New Gasket Seal: Ensure the mounting surfaces are clean. Always use the new gaskets provided in the kit; an air leak at the gasket will cause the engine to run lean and surge.
  • Fuel Line Inspection: While the carburetor is off, check the rubber fuel line for cracks or brittleness. If the line is hard, replace it now and add an inline fuel filter if one isn't present.
  • Fresh Fuel Treatment: After installation, use fresh, high-octane gasoline. Always add a fuel stabilizer during the winter season to prevent ethanol from damaging your new carburetor during summer storage.

Books arrived in fantasic shape.
Format: Paperback, Format: Paperback
I was worried about making the purchase due to other people having problems with miscut books and glued pages. I ordered the set of three and they are all in great shape. No miscuts or glued pages. Every page seems to be printed legibly. I'm very happy with my purchase. I didn't see any recent reviews so I thought this may help some of those hesitant to buy.

Good so far.
Format: Paperback
I will be using these heavily in a month or two, I ordered them because they were on sale so I will come back and edit once I actually read the material, use the glossary, online tools, etc. However from out of the box? All the books are in perfect condition, no sticking pages like other reviews. I will say if you can afford the hardcover version with the labs? Get those. From touching them once or twice so far, this book will not stand up to constant use. It's a really flimsy type.. not even sure if it's paper? It feels like plastic paper. I will also add that that study guide book is F A T . I wish they would have split it into two. I bet the hardcover is gigantic because mine looks like the biggest dictionary you've seen, and I know the cover page which is almost exactly like the pages? Will be ruined once it starts being used consistently.

Very Useful
Format: Paperback
I used these for my A+ exams and I didn’t really end up reading the material. I more so used them for their practice exams. That’s only because there’s a lot of information to digest and I was in a rush to take the exams. I still passed so I find that they are well formatted. The questions imo needs to be read more throughly than the exam questions themselves.
