Discover 'Gambling on Development,' a compelling exploration of the dynamics of global development from renowned author Stefan Dercon. This insightful book, published by Hurst Publishers in 2022, provides an in-depth analysis of why some countries achieve remarkable progress while others struggle. Through engaging conversations with influential figures—such as prime ministers, civil servants, and everyday citizens—Dercon highlights critical moments in the developmental journey of nations. As the world evolves, the landscape of poverty has witnessed significant transformation—decreasing overall in many parts while life expectancy and health have improved. Yet, the barriers faced by certain nations raise crucial questions: What differentiates prosperous countries from those that remain stagnant?
In 'Gambling on Development,' Dercon posits that the success of a nation relies not on rigid policies but on a vital 'development bargain.' This concept emphasizes the shift of a country’s elite from self-preservation towards investing in a collective growth future. Amidst the imperfections of such arrangements, successful models emerge from unexpected places, including China, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Ghana, and Ethiopia. This book encompasses diverse perspectives anchored in three decades of experience across over forty countries, detailing transformative moments that shape nations—from coping with Ebola in Sierra Leone to the economic intrigues in Malawi and the mobile revolution in Mozambique. Join the journey and learn about the power of collaborative growth strategies, showcasing paths to development that may inspire future successes worldwide.

Surprisingly good shirt for the price
Fit Type: Regular Fit, Color: White, Size: XX-Large
I’m generally pleased with my purchase. I got a 2XL because the website it would fit my neck. Around the waist it fit similar to Amazon Essentials work shirts (like mechanics use which I find comfortable).
It was snug around the waist when sitting, but I can’t complain because I have a belly. I did find the neck snug when buttoning the top button so it means the neck is 18 or 18.5 and I wear a 19/19.5 to have 1-2 fingers space in the collar.
The shirt is surprisingly thick like Amazon’s work shirts, much thicker than other dress shirts from another brand.
And I am pleased that this shirt has button holes like other Amazon shirts does, all vertical button holes except the last one at the bottom which is horizontal. That feature keeps the shirt from unbuttoning itself during daily movement at the office. A very nice feature! I was a little disappointed in how it was packaged however but I have to press and wash it anyway.

Nice shirt, excellent quality, nice cloth and buttons. No pockets A+
Fit Type: Regular Fit, Color: White, Size: Large
Nice quality shirt cut a little small. The shirt kind of needs to be pressed before wearing however at this price point and quality its a buy!

Comparable to high end mens shops!
Fit Type: Regular Fit, Color: Blue, Size: Large
Beautiful, heavy blue Oxford comparable to upper end mens store at 75% less! Full cut, great for casual wear or sending out for professional starching. Downside, no pocket, but I had mine monogramed wear the pocket would be and it looks like an expensive dress shirt. I bought more (with pockets) in blue & white

Heavier fabric, very durable
Fit Type: Regular Fit, Color: Grey, Size: Large
3 stars. Pretty nice shirt but the fabric is a bit firmer than i like. I iron it when i usually wear it so that it looks half decent since wrinkle resistance is low or poor. I usually have to use a higher setting on the fabric since the material is thick making it alot heavier. Overall great for the lower end cost, anything that beats it would probably be double the price. I work in a cubicle so this works well for me, a simple shirt, with a simple color.
