Originally forged in the flame of a close collaboration between guitar player John Mayer and guitar maker Paul Reed Smith, the Silver Sky has taken on a life of its own on the stage with Mayer and with countless other guitarists around the world. Today's Wild Blue Silver Sky introduces the third limited edition variant color of the Silver Sky in a crisp turquoise shade with all the great Silver Sky magic baked in under the hood. In short, we're clear for take-off.

The PRS Silver Sky, a real modern-day classic of signature electric guitars, could not have first come to be without the close collaboration and artistic eye and ear of guitarist John Mayer. The guitarist, as it also happens, is a collector outside the usual six strings – but this collection isn't slung over his shoulder, it's wrapped on his wrist. Mayer's affinity for watches inspired this Silver Sky's satin Wild Blue color finish, reminiscent of Tiffany Blue – a specific, robin's egg shade of blue closely intwined with legendary Fifth Avenue Tiffany & Co. jewelry. The Wild Blue color can be found on the Silver Sky's iconic, double-cutaway form and across the Silver Sky's intentionally-inverted PRS asymmetric headstock.

PRS and Mayer set their course on the Silver Sky first with a classic pick of alder body wood. The double-cutaway, carefully contoured body carries with a familiar feel to other double-cutaways across time, yet has that distinct PRS eye for care when it comes to precision. The solid body design and PRS Flat Top carve together make for a smooth feel across the entire cut while serving as a lively sonic engine from which the guitar can bloom acoustically and electrically. A bolt-on maple neck joins this alder with a PRS 635 JM-R profile that has been subtly modified from the original JM neck and fills a rounded shape in the shoulders to more easily fit the palm. A product of Smith's examinations of vintage necks and Mayer's trials of guitars onstage, this carefully modified neck profile offers a different playing route.

This limited edition Wild Blue Silver Sky only offers one fingerboard wood, but who can really complain with a cut of rosewood like this? The Silver Sky's vintage-style 7.25" radius offers a more rounded feel on the fingers for smooth playability like any number of classic guitars. Twenty-two frets laying out across a classic 25.5" scale length open the guitar completely for smooth exploration from the lowest to highest registers with ease. For that added bit of PRS pizzazz, Small Birds inlays flock about this rosewood – birds of a feather, you know?

The coal firing the Silver Sky's sonic engine takes the form of three PRS-designed 635JM single-coil pickups. A classic configuration seen across countless of guitars across time, these three single-coils are assorted uniquely to sing with a unified voice chiming full of personality. Round, full, and resonant, these 635JM single-coils carry a faithful, snappy voice while embodying plenty of character.

All of these features are backed up by a reliable PRS hardware setup. A bone nut lands at the end of the rosewood to act as a gate to the guitar's reverse-oriented PRS headstock. Specifically designed by Mayer to accommodate consistent string length, this headstock is player-forward and player-friendly. PRS Vintage-Style Locking tuning machines line the headstock for a more traditional assembly with closed backs. What's more, the Silver Sky's steel tremolo bridge punches in with a patented PRS tremolo design utilizing Gen III knife-edge screws set flush to the body in its neutral position. This design fashions a tremolo experience that only produces downward pitch bends, keeping intonation and tuning accuracy untouched regardless of tremolo use.
