Compatibility & Fitment
- Universal replacement for round dual run capacitors with matching 40/5 MFD capacitance and 370V or 440V ratings.
- A 440V capacitor can replace a 370V capacitor; do not replace a 440V capacitor with a 370V unit.
- Used in air conditioner condensers, heat pumps, and other HVAC systems.
- Physical dimensions are approximately 2.0 - 2.4 inches in diameter and 3.7 - 5.25 inches in height. Verify fitment before purchase.
When to Replace
- Outdoor unit fan does not spin.
- Compressor hums but will not start.
- HVAC system is running but not cooling.
- Visible signs of failure, such as a bulging or leaking capacitor case.
- Capacitance measures outside the specified tolerance when tested with a multimeter.
Installation Tips
- Disconnect all electrical power to the HVAC unit before servicing.
- Discharge the existing capacitor by shorting across the terminals with an insulated-handle screwdriver.
- Photograph or note the wire placement on the C, HERM, and FAN terminals before disconnecting.
- Connect the wires to the corresponding terminals on the new capacitor.
- Secure the new capacitor with the original mounting bracket to prevent vibration.
