The Epiphone Thunderbird '60s Bass is a modern take on one of the most iconic bass designs in rock history. Known for its striking offset body and neck-through construction, the Thunderbird has been a favored choice of players like Kim Gordon, Nikki Sixx, and Krist Novoselic—musicians who pushed sonic boundaries and brought its aggressive tone to some of the biggest stages and records of the past several decades.
Built with a solid neck-through-body design featuring mahogany wings and a 7-ply mahogany/walnut neck, this instrument offers long sustain and structural integrity. The Indian laurel fingerboard has a 12-inch radius and is adorned with simple dot inlays across 20 medium jumbo frets. Its 34-inch scale length and 1.5-inch nut width maintain a familiar feel under the fingers, while the 1960s Rounded Bass neck profile lends a substantial yet accessible grip. Tuning is handled by open-gear machines with historically styled clover buttons and a 17:1 ratio for precision.
At the core of the Thunderbird’s tone are two Epiphone ProBucker Bass #760 humbuckers in the neck and bridge positions. These pickups are wired to independent volume controls and a shared tone knob, allowing for flexible blending between voices. The 1960s TB-Bass Tune-O-Matic bridge and claw tailpiece offer consistent string spacing and solid intonation, while the Tobacco Sunburst finish completes the instrument's period-inspired aesthetic.
