The Hatsukokoro x Myojin Shirasagi White 2 Left Handed Mioroshi Deba 270mm is a single-bevel Japanese fish knife forged in Tosa, Japan, by Myojin Riki Seisakusho. This knife features a White 2 (Shirogami #2) carbon steel core clad in soft iron, finished with a Kasumi polish, and mounted on an octagonal ebony handle. It is specifically ground for left-handed use, distinguishing it from the standard right-handed profiles common in this category.

Designed primarily for butchering whole fish, the 270mm blade provides the necessary weight and thickness to separate bone and flesh effectively. The Nimai construction supports a thin, sharp edge while the soft iron cladding offers structural resilience. As a carbon steel tool, it requires immediate cleaning, drying, and occasional oiling to prevent rust and patina. The single-bevel geometry creates an offset cutting path, making it best suited for users familiar with traditional Japanese knife techniques.

Measuring 405g with a heel height of 52mm, this Deba balances substantial mass with a Kasumi finish that highlights the transition between the core and cladding. The octagonal ebony handle provides a secure, geometric grip. While the fit and finish are uniform across the blade, the reactive nature of the steel demands consistent maintenance, making it a practical choice for those willing to care for high-carbon tools.

Part of a Set
There are three items available in Wright and Bird's massive work on the New Testament. This is the video that goes with the text and there is also a Workbook.

Video lectures, just as the subtitle promises
I was seduced into buying this set on the basis of NT Wright's reputation and advertising graphics showing Holy Land locations. Consequently, I didn't pay sufficient attention to the subtitle: "The New Testament in Its World: Video Lectures." And "lectures" is exactly what this set delivers. Talking heads, lecturing on the New Testament; sometimes in a studio, sometimes in eastern Mediterranean locations. The content is solid evangelical biblical scholarship. My disappointment is the almost complete lack of engagement with the spectacular settings much of these films are shot in. It seems to me that Wright and his producers missed a real opportunity by failing more explicitly to relate their lecture content to the places where they're standing. I give this set a three-star rating. The lectures are a perfectly fine introduction to the New Testament, if that's what you're looking for -- but you could put them on CDs or MP3s and listen in the car. The graphics add very little to these presentations.

Didn't get a lot out of it
My wife got me this for a Christmas present. Having previously made it through Eusebius' "Proof of the Gospel", she figured I could handle it. I know this is part of Zondervan's Academic product line and as such is not aimed at a general audience. What I discover was that if the audience lacks credentials in Philosophy or Theology, the incessant use of jargon and terminology that would most often only be encountered in a Seminary or Religious College is something I found off-putting.

Respectful Critics
Format: Paperback
Wright and Bird do an excellent job of discussing the New Testament. They offer insights from the most widely held opinions and then offer their own with a multitude of resources. It is an excellent resources within its self.
