Background：
The Israeli Air Force F-16C Block 40 was named "Barak II" (Hebrew for "lightning") and was its main fighter jet after the Cold War.
Due to the cancellation of the domestically produced Lavi fighter jet project, Israel ordered 30 units of this model from the United States through the "Peace Marble III" program in 1988, which was delivered between 1991 and 1993.
This aircraft model has been extensively modified by Israel and is equipped with the Pratt&Whitney F100 engine, with a maximum takeoff weight of 21.8 tons. It is equipped with Elbit Systems avionics equipment and AN/APG-68 radar, and can carry weapons such as Derby air-to-air missiles and JDAM joint direct attack ammunition. It has both air superiority and ground strike capabilities, and is skilled in night and complex weather operations.
It has been in service for more than 30 years and is the core of Israel's air defense. On July 15, 2024, the last one was retired at the Ovda Air Force Base and replaced by new fighter jets such as the F-35A.
