Discover the exceptional Hado Shiosai SG2 Tsuchime Bunka 180mm, a premier Japanese kitchen knife designed for superior performance. This Bunka knife features a distinctive profile with a straighter edge and a pointed tip, making it a versatile all-purpose tool in any kitchen. Crafted from high-end SG2/R2 powdered stainless steel by Takefu Special Steel, this Japanese kitchen knife offers excellent edge retention, wear resistance, and a hardness of up to 64 HRC, ensuring long-lasting sharpness and durability. The Hado Shiosai line represents outstanding value, providing a lower-maintenance, high-performance alternative to traditional carbon steel knives. As a sharpening company, Hado excels in blade geometry, producing some of the thinnest 'laser' knives available. The high Shinogi line and subtle convex grind minimize cutting resistance and reduce food sticking, making this Japanese kitchen knife ideal for professional chefs, enthusiasts, and culinary students. Aesthetic details include a unique Tsuchime (hammered) finish with octagonal patterns evoking foamy tide bubbles, complemented by refined brushing and sandblasting for a minimalist look. The knife is paired with an elegant Octagonal Ebony handle, meticulously crafted from a single piece of wood for a seamless, comfortable grip and luxurious feel. With a 171mm cutting edge, 50mm heel height, and a weight of 155g, this Japanese kitchen knife balances precision and control. Its double-bevel edge construction ensures it is accessible to both right and left-handed users. Far from enthralling, but I did learn
Format: Paperback
This book was a disappointment. It looked like exactly what I was looking for: an overview of the history, society, and culture of Egypt from ancient to modern times that wasn't 500+ pages long. I did learn a fair bit of information, but unfortunately, the book is far from "enthralling." It reads like a high school student's book report. In addition, it sometimes just throws terms out there with no explanation, and I found myself having to consult Google. For example, it says "Since hieroglyphs were difficult to create, the Egyptians developed hieretic writing, which was a type of cursive script. Later, demotic writing was developed for ordinary documents." What is demotic writing? How is it different from hieretic? The book doesn't even provide a picture. I had to go to Wikipedia to find out what these things are. This book needs slightly more detail and an author with better writing style / storytelling abilities. That said, it still may be the best short introduction available.

Recommended read by tour guide to Egypt
Format: Paperback
Very good history book of Egypt in non-complicated terms. I wish there were more pictures and maps to add to the descriptions in the book. Read this as it was recommended by our tour guide to Egypt in April
