Château Petit-Village Pomerol

Château Petit-Village Pomerol 2017 comes from the estate’s 10.5-hectare vineyard on the Pomerol plateau, where clay and gravel soils over iron-rich subsoil contribute both structure and finesse. The 2017 blend is Merlot-led (71%) with Cabernet Franc and a small proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon.

The 2017 growing season was shaped by contrasting conditions, beginning with a mild, dry winter and a warm, wet early spring. Château Petit-Village avoided the late April frosts that affected much of Bordeaux, allowing for a smooth flowering in May. Heavy rainfall in June helped replenish water reserves ahead of a dry summer, with vineyard health remaining strong throughout the season.

Harvest began earlier than usual following mid-September rain, with Merlot picked between 18 and 20 September in cool, sunny conditions. Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon followed on 27 and 28 September, reaching optimal ripeness and contributing to the wine’s balance and structure.

In style, 2017 is refined rather than powerful, showing blackcurrant, plum and sweet spice, with hints of liquorice and floral notes. The palate is medium to full-bodied with velvety tannins and bright acidity, leading to a long, savoury finish — an elegant, structured Pomerol with good ageing potential, but already approachable with decanting.
