- The self-locking 1691BM Series metric tape measures have an automatic brake
- The spring-loaded steel tape will not retract until the thumb-operated release button is depressed
- When the button is released, the tape stops retracting
- This 5 meter long tape has markings in meters, centimeters, and millimeters (no SAE units)
