Some might call it a stretch to compare opinion police to the Thought Police of George Orwell's classic 1984, but in some ways they're more insidious. Today the whip cracks in the intricate form of ornate focus-group driven media campaigns, politically correct madness, profit-driven greed, collegiate empire building, and highly coordinated media manipulation and political disinformation.Â
It's not Big Brother, it a Big Brotherhood of oligarchs and their tit-suckling minions controlling acceptable thought until the entire cusp of acceptable belief is so narrow that its razor edge can gut the truth like a fish before your eyes and you still don't believe it.
I made this shirt in one of my favorite retro styles, with the police officer wagging his disapproving finger at the viewer visibly angered at even the hint of dissent. "Closed minds stop thought crimes!" it reads, "Save us the grief, forget your silly belief."
The shield sits beside the officer imploring that we "Support the Thought Police," in an act of not only cognitive dissonance, but intellectual self destruction. If you think, therefor you are, then the Thought Police erase you from existence, all the while haranguing you to support it as your duty.
