The Canuck Letter: The "Cry Muskie" moment got frostier than a Maine winter as the Manchester Union Leader dropped a fake bombshell, accusing then front-runner Muskie of endorsing the term "Canuck" for French-Canadians. Muskie, incensed, vented in the snow, defending his wife and denying the slur in an emotional moment people were put off by. Because the snow was melting on his face, it looked like he was crying and it became the infamous "Cry Muskie" moment. The twist? The Canuck letter was actually a Nixon dirty trick, part of the Watergate web. Muskie, facing a chilly New Hampshire primary, won but melted under 50%, leading to his April exit and a legacy tainted by a deceitful snow job. Politics – where even the snowflakes have a hidden agenda.
Presidential Aspirations: Muskie sought the Democratic nomination for the presidency in 1972 but faced challenges, ultimately withdrawing from the race.
