A stunning 19th century Louis XVI style bergère chair having original painted hand carved wooden frame featuring wonderful neoclassical motifs carved into the frame with upholstered back, arms, seat, and loose down cushion, circa early 1880s. This beautiful antique armchair features a carved, slightly arched crest rail above an oval cameo back flanked by sloping arms with padded armrests over a loose cushioned seat and carved apron. Raised on tapered fluted legs below richly carved rosette blocks. Upholstered in a lovely green velvet with nailhead trim. The beauty of this French armchair lies in its elegant proportion between balance of scale and symmetry of design that are hallmarks of superior design achieved during the reign of King Louis XVI.
