Sizes available: 2 quart

Basics: Zone 3-7, 12-18" x 12-18", full sun to part shade, yellow bloom in early spring, prefers moist, somewhat acidic, fertile soils or oxygen-rich water

Common names: Swamp Marigold, Marsh Marigold, Kingcup (also see below for more!)

Family: Ranunculaceae

Origin/Distribution: This plant appears in the temperate northern hemisphere in numerous closely associated variations. It is native to the northeastern U.S. including Maine.

Habitat: wet edges, wet open woods, wet meadows, swamps, bogs, marshes, fens, wet ditches, in between reeds at lake and river edge. Found in Black Alder coppices and regularly-flooded, always moist places.

More: Caltha palustris contains nectar and lots of pollen and is an excellent food source for numerous insects early in the season. It can also be rain-pollinated and the seeds rain-dispersed and/or distributed by floating on moving water. It is a joy to see the bright yellow flowers after a long winter. The young leaves and buds are edible cooked, with a couple of water-changes. A more promising experience might be cooking and pickling the buds for a garnish. There is potential for contact dermatitis and the plant is toxic if eaten raw. The leaves and roots have been used medicinally. The leaves of this plant can be confused with the leaves of Veratrum viride, False Hellebore, which is fatally toxic in all parts.

Even more: This plant is mentioned in numerous poems and works of fiction (see the lengthy Wikipedia entry for more). In the U.K. Caltha palustris has many names: Bassinets, Crazy Beth, Horse Blob, Molly-blob, May Blob, Boots, Water Boots, Meadow-bright, Bullflower, Meadow Buttercup, Water Buttercup, Soldier's Buttons, Meadow or Water Cowslip, Publican's Cloak or Publicans-and-Sinners, Crowfoot, Water Dragon, Drunkards, Water Goggles, Meadow, Water or Yellow Gowan, Goldes, Golds, Goldings, Gools, Cowlily, Marybuds.

Sturdy, works great, not quite perfect.
Color: silver
This was the perfect stand to use when my desktop computer crashed and I had to work on my laptop without killing my neck. It's sturdy, well made, and works exactly as advertised. Adjustment is smooth and simple. I was able to work with my monitor at a comfortable height and distance, and it saved my bacon! But, would I want to work on it indefinitely? No. Two things are lacking for me. First, there's a height adjustment, but no angle control. This means that at its max height, the display has a small downward tilt. It also means that on zoom calls, I had to fiddle with the monitor height until my whole head was framed, rather than cut off. Not a dealbreaker, but annoying over the long term, especially with lots of zoom meetings. Second, I'm not sure why I was surprised, but the stand-plus-laptop combo created a kind of aluminum "monolith" on my desktop. I couldn't bend to peer under it, or over it either. It felt as though part of my desk (albeit a narrow portion) became inaccessible. This too is a quibble--I just happen to like a more open and airy feeling. These two nits aside, this is a sturdy and well designed stand that works well and will last a long time.

Replacement stickers are on the way!!
Color: silver, Color: silver
Edit: Customer service was lovely and I have replacement stickers on the way. This fabulous product has helped me so much and I can't be without it. Back up to a 5 star review. I purchased this product in April 2024. The stickers that help the laptop 'grab' onto the stand are either gone or unstable. See picture below. Can it be repaired with new stickers? How do I get them?

Sixty Bucks? Yep. And I'd buy another one.
Color: silver
OK, I had my doubts. Yes, the iLevel2 is highly-reviewed. And yes, it's really (really) important to have your laptop screen at eye level (get it? iLevel?) But spending 60 dollars on an adjustable laptop stand? Couldn't I just pile up a couple of old books for free? Well, as a contractor once told me when I made a really dumb suggestion, "You COULD do it that way..." The iLevel2's main virtue is that the angle/height adjustment knob is rock-solid, as is the platform. It's just an extremely well-made, solid product. And the adjustment knob, which is on a left-right track on the front of the product, allows you to dial in your laptop's screen height to the millimeter. Result: a totally-custom, ergonomically-friendly setup. Love it.

Underwhelming
Color: silver
Too much hype. It just holds the laptop. Buy something cheaper. The slide adjuster isn’t useful to me at all.

Useful but not perfect
Color: silver
Useful, but typing with laptop perched on it is unsteady. I use a separate keyboard.
