Archaeologists date Aboriginal activity to more than 10,000 years ago. The first Europeans arrived with the expanding fur trade around 1799 and gold rushes soon followed in the 1850s. In 1883, the railway arrived and its workers discovered a network of hot springs in Banff, AB.
