Kidrobot is thrilled to collaborate with ROBOT SODA aka Juan Carlos Arenas on his new Dunny art toy design celebrating the bold, colorful, and rhythmic world of border culture.
“Growing up on the US-Mexico border, I've always been immersed in a unique mix of U.S. pop culture and tradition,” says Arenas. “This blend is at the heart of my work.”
He pulls inspiration directly from his life and works in a variety of mediums — paintings, sculpture, animation, and printed media — to represent his vibrant bicultural experience.
“A few years back, I started making tile sculptures that capture little moments and icons from my childhood, influenced by my favorite things: a mix of commercial art, bootlegs, and Mexican folk art. By combining different techniques, I reflect the unique fusion of contemporary and traditional elements that define border life.”
His tile sculptures make up MONOLITH's iconographic design, which pays tribute to everything from ancient Aztec imagery to the classic Mexican TV series El Chapulin Colorado. Look closely and you'll find eagles, snakes, Día de los Muertos sugar skulls and marigolds, luchadores, conchas (sweet breads), and so much more. Cacti are also a theme throughout — a symbol of resilience in harsh conditions.

The MONOLITH collectible art figure is semi-translucent jade vinyl and measures 8 inches tall. Pair with the Onyx black MONOLITH Dunny to complete your collection.
