OUR PURPOSE
Why the Name: The "Willow Run" Airport story
Some say Willow Run won the war. During World War II, few accomplished what the Willow Run factory in Ypsilanti, Michigan was able to do in such a short and critical time. Albert Kahn designed the first bomber assembly plant of its kind, which was built by the Ford Motor Company in 1940. Nearly 8,700 B-24 Liberator airplanes were made here, one every 63 minutes. And during its peak production, Willow Run (aka the Arsenal of Democracy) employed 42,000 people including "Rosie the Riveter.” In fact, one third of the workforce was female!
As a team of veterans and Detroiters who live not far from this iconic place, we're proud to celebrate the people and hard work that both served and lifted this country.
