Paramore’s self-titled fourth album marks a bold reinvention for the band, arriving after significant internal shifts. It was their first release following the departure of founding guitarist Josh Farro, the only album without drummer Zac Farro, and the last to feature bassist Jeremy Davis. Framed as a “statement” by the band, the album reintroduces Paramore with renewed energy, broader influences, and an ambitious sense of creative freedom.

Produced by Justin Meldal-Johnsen with guitarist Taylor York co-producing select tracks, Paramore embraces genre expansion, weaving new wave, funk rock, and pop into their sound, alongside acoustic interludes that act as connective tissue throughout. Critics responded positively, praising the band’s musical growth and Hayley Williams’ commanding vocal performances. It was featured in several year-end lists from publications like The A.V. Club and The Guardian.

Commercially, the album was a global success. It debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 and topped charts in several countries, including Australia, New Zealand, and the UK. It has since been certified platinum in the US. Four singles were released: “Now,” “Still Into You,” “Daydreaming,” and the chart-topping, Grammy-winning “Ain’t It Fun.” The latter two tracks each earned double platinum status, a first for the band.

A deluxe edition followed in 2014 with additional tracks and live recordings. In 2022, the album’s artwork was quietly updated on streaming platforms, replacing the original cover with an image of Williams in a “Grow Up” denim jacket, a change widely believed to stem from legal issues involving former bassist Jeremy Davis.

Sprawling and adventurous, Paramore stands as a defining moment for the band, capturing a period of transition and creative liberation.
