artist biography
Knud Holar is a Swedish painter born in 1934 best known for his district abstract paintings in oil during the 1960s and 1970s. Holar worked in Malmö, where he was a member of the National Organization of Swedish Artists (KRO) and the Skåne Artists’ Club.
Throughout his career, Holar exhibited widely both in Sweden and internationally. His solo exhibitions included shows at Galleri Thalia (Stadsteatern, Malmö, 1969), Woodstock Gallery (London, 1969), Upper Street Gallery (London, 1972), Galleri S:t Petrí (Lund, 1972), and Galleri Fred Gruska (Kraków, 1973). He also exhibited at Galleri Empik (Kraków, 1974), Upper Street Gallery (London, 1974), S:t Barbara (Malmö, 1975), SDS-hallen (Malmö, 1977), and Trelleborg (1976).
Holar’s work was also included in numerous group exhibitions, such as those at Skånes Konstförening (Lund Art Gallery, 1967 and 1976), Klippan Cultural Reserve (1969), Festival of Paintings (London, 1969), Malmö Museum (1970, 1971, 1974), Les Arts en Europe (Brussels, 1971), and Tomelilla Konsthall (1977).
His work is represented in several public collections, including Malmöhus County Council, Malmö Museum, The Swedish National Public Art Council (Statens Konstråd), Malmö Municipality, Östergötlands County Council, Landskrona Museum.
