Experience reliable, automatic power management with the APC Universal Transfer Switch. Designed to safeguard essential equipment and maintain uninterrupted operation across multiple loads, this 10-circuit transfer switch delivers intelligent, seamless transitions between power sources at 120/240V. Built for versatility in both residential and commercial settings, it elevates power quality, protects critical infrastructure, and reduces downtime by coordinating automatic source switching with precision. Whether you’re protecting servers, networking gear, medical devices, or laboratory equipment, this transfer switch acts as a central hub for centralized power control, simplifying installation, boosting efficiency, and providing peace of mind in environments that demand dependable performance. With its robust construction, clear control logic, and scalable design, the APC Universal Transfer Switch is an essential component of a comprehensive power protection strategy that combines reliability, safety, and value.

  • 10-circuit capacity for centralized protection – Consolidate power management across ten critical circuits in a single, compact unit. This reduces the footprint in the electrical panel, simplifies wiring complexity, and enables targeted protection for essential loads such as IT gear, medical devices, and data-driven equipment. By coordinating multiple loads with one transfer device, you gain streamlined control, easier troubleshooting, and improved overall reliability, especially in environments where uptime is non-negotiable.
  • 120/240V single-phase versatility – Built to accommodate common electrical infrastructures found in homes, offices, clinics, and small data centers. The 120/240V capability supports a wide range of devices and systems, enabling you to tailor your power protection to the specific voltage profile of your facility. This versatility helps ensure compatibility with existing generators, UPS configurations, and utility feeds, while maintaining safe and efficient operation across different load profiles without the need for multiple separate transfer devices.
  • Automatic, intelligent transfer logic – The heart of continuous power is the intelligent control that monitors input power quality, detects outages or anomalies, and executes a precise transfer when needed. This automatic functionality minimizes manual intervention, reduces the risk of human error during outages, and ensures that critical circuits stay powered during the transition. The switch prioritizes essential loads, manages transfer sequencing, and can adapt to varying conditions to maintain steady voltage, minimizing perturbations to connected equipment.
  • Uninterruptible power transfer for critical loads – Designed to protect sensitive equipment from power interruptions, surges, and unusual power events. By delivering rapid, coordinated transitions between sources, the APC Universal Transfer Switch helps prevent data loss, equipment damage, and downtime that can disrupt operations. This capability is especially valuable for servers, networking hardware, laboratory instruments, and other devices where even brief outages can have outsized consequences on performance, data integrity, or patient safety in medical settings.
  • Safe, robust, and code-conscious design – Built to endure demanding environments with a rugged enclosure and built-in protective features. The unit emphasizes safe installation and operation, with clear indicators and straightforward fault management to guide technicians. Its design supports compliant integration into commercial and industrial electrical systems, aligning with common safety practices and enabling reliable service life in daily use, maintenance cycles, and surge-prone conditions.

How to install APC Universal Transfer Switch 10-Circuit 120/240V

  • Prepare the installation area by turning off the main power supply and ensuring the workspace is safe and compliant with local electrical codes.
  • Plan the wiring layout to map each of the ten circuits to the appropriate loads in your distribution panel or subpanel, ensuring correct circuit labeling for future maintenance.
  • Mount the transfer switch in a suitable enclosure or subpanel space that provides adequate clearance, ventilation, and access for cables and service connections.
  • Connect the primary power source (utility or main feed) to the designated input terminals on the transfer switch, and connect the backup source (generator or UPS) to the backup input terminals as specified by the manufacturer.
  • Wire the outputs from the transfer switch to the corresponding circuit breakers or distribution points that protect the ten critical loads, confirming proper polarity, grounding, and secure terminations.
  • Configure the intelligent control settings, including load priorities, hold-up times, fault thresholds, alarms, and any integration with monitoring systems or building management platforms.
  • Perform a controlled test by simulating a source outage to observe the transfer process. Verify that all connected loads switch over smoothly and recover as intended upon restoration of power from the main source.
  • Document the installation details, including wiring diagrams and configuration parameters, to support ongoing maintenance, future upgrades, and compliance audits.

Works well. You need to drill a 3/8” hole
Appears to be well made, alignment bar slides in nicely. As stated, you need to drill a hole in the bar for the gimble bearing driver, the directions are not clear, what I did was before I take out the old gimble bearing, put an O ring on the bar close to the last step on the bar, slide the bar all the way in, then carefully slide the bar out, this marks the distance from the back of the gimble bearing to where the shaft on the outdrive bottoms out, move the O ring a 1/4” towards the stepped part of the alignment tool (this is so you won’t bottom out the alignment tool when driving the gimble bearing in) then slide the driver puck up to the O ring and use a 3/8” diameter transfer punch through the side hole in the puck to mark the bar. You need to drill a 3/8” diameter hole in the alignment bar, two V blocks, some clamps, and a drill press will make drilling much easier, after the bar is securely mounted and centered in the drill press, use a center drill, then 1/4” drill first, using plenty of oil, drill all the way through, then use the 3/8” drill, deburr both sides and you should be good to go. People complain that it doesn’t come pre-drilled, the reason is that not all out drives are the same so you have to fit it to the outdrive that you have. Fortunately, I have a machine shop at my house and have a jig setup with various drill bushings, but the method I described above should work for you. Just make sure you’re perfectly centered and secure before you start drilling.
