10830NAT course background & history

Silicon dioxide makes up approximately half of the earth's crust. Crystalline Silica can be found in soil, sand and granite, as well as in grout, bitumen and rock, gravel, stone, grout and glass, and even engineered stone.

Quartz is the most popular form of crystalline silicona. Tridymite and Cristobalite are other forms of crystallized silica. Workers can make respirable particles of all three forms by cutting, drilling, and grinding objects containing crystalline silica. Silica, a generic term used to describe crystalline silica and crystalline quartz, is commonly used.

Since the beginning of stone masonry and mining, silica has been a health hazard for millions.

Due to rising numbers of workers who are affected by respirable crystalline silicona, the topic of their impact is becoming more important. Australia is witnessing an increase in the number of silica-related illnesses in other countries, including those working in construction and mining.

Why is the 10830NAT Silica Exposure Prevention Course necessary?

It is a simple requirement that all workers entering a construction site must have, even though it isn't officially mandated by the ACT it is due to become a mandatory requirement by July 1 2023 (much like 10675NAT Course in Asbestos Awareness)

Silica is used in many concrete-based building materials manufacturing processes. These industries are not exclusive:

  1. Tunnelling
  2. Construction includes granite grinding and polishing
  3. Foundries
  4. Stonemasonry
  5. Fabrication of cement
  6. Power generation
  7. Ceramics
  8. Brick and tile manufacturing
  9. Polishing of metal
  10. Abrasive blasting
  11. Mining
  12. Quarrying

The Work Health and Safety Regulations 2011 require that PCBUs ensure that workers suspected of working with asbestos or asbestos-containing material (ACMs), are enrolled in an approved course on asbestos awareness.

WorkSafe ACT requires that workers complete the 10675NAT Training in Asbestos Awareness, and CPCCWHS1001 Preparing to work in the construction industry. However, there is no requirement for 10830NAT. However, many industry participants believe there will be some changes in this in 2022. The 10830NAT Course In Crystalline Silica Exposure Prevention will be mandatory.

What are the learning outcomes for Silica Exposure Prevention Training?

The Course in Crystalline Silica Exposure Prevention outlines the outcomes needed to recognise the hazards and risks inherent in working with products containing crystalline silica. It also explains how to plan and implement safe work practices that reduce exposure to the mandatory limits.

These course outcomes are applicable to all workers in the building and construction industry, as well as those who work in the jewellery industry.

Graduates will be able identify and use the following knowledge in the context of their job role for their safety as well as the safety of coworkers and others.

* Identification of products containing crystalline silica
* All relevant legislation, guidelines, and standards
* Exposure to chemicals can cause serious health problems, including severe and life-threatening injuries.
* Standard of exposure
* Safety Data Sheets
* Hierarchy of Controls
* Systems to prevent exposure
* Hazard prevention and risk assessment

Fun, Durable Ball, But Straps Could Be Tougher
Color: Glow in the dark I, Size: Large
I bought the QDAN Glow in the Dark Dog Toys Soccer Ball for my German Shepherd, who absolutely loves it. The glow-in-the-dark feature is great for evening play, adding an extra layer of fun to our outdoor interactions. The ball itself has proven to be remarkably durable, standing up well to the rough play that comes with a large, active dog. However, the straps did not fare as well. My GSD managed to bite through most of them relatively quickly. While this hasn’t stopped us from enjoying the ball, it does mean that some of the interactive potential of the toy is lost. The ball continues to be a hit on its own, thanks to its resilience and the glow feature that keeps my dog engaged. If the straps were as durable as the ball itself, this would be a perfect outdoor toy for energetic dogs. As it stands, it’s still a good purchase for anyone looking for a sturdy, engaging toy for their pet, especially if nighttime play is a routine.

Broke the first day
I purchased the owl ball because of other dog chew toys I purchased from Amazon. Those other chew toys are still holding together. The main reason I got the owl ball is due to the different noises it makes other than the regular squeak noise. After giving the toy to my dog he loved it right away. He especially liked the noise it made. After a few hours, I noticed he was chewing a white tube-like device. I took this away from him and determined it was the noise maker in the owl ball. I examined the owl ball and noticed the glue used to keep the ball cap shut did not hold. On closer inspection, I noticed what looked like rubber cement was used to hold the cap on but if it was rubber cement it was used improperly. Anyway, I just reglued the cap correctly and now it's just a ball because my dog destroyed the noise maker. OK, Since I posted this review I was contacted by the seller. They offered to give me a full refund for the owl ball. I accepted the offer. So, I will try it again, but buy a different color owl this time. I never expected a refund since it's just a ball now, my dog still plays with it and it is holding up very well. The material it is made from is pretty sturdy.

Squeaker not working!
Color: Yellow
I'll give it 3 stars because I love the design and it's sturdy and great for dogs to hold/launch. That said, the squeaker doesn't really work... I tried everything but it just doesn't make any sound. My dog wasn't really interested but when it did make a slight sound he approached it. Once it stopped he lost interest. But he's very difficult to please😆 so if you have a normal dog, he'll probably like it! I hope the manufacturer fixes the squeaker issue because apparently many people are having the same issue, which is a shame because the product is clearly well made! I'm on the fence about returning it just because the quality it's amazing(squeaker issue aside)!

Sturdy rubber ball. Noise maker could be improved
Color: Red
I would have given it five stars because of how much, my dog loved it in the beginning. And shut us up holds true as a sturdy rubber ball. My only complaint is at with one of my dogs being a heavy chewer, she was able to bust the noise making part. The ball never broke open or anything. It just no longer makes noise. You can hear the piece rattling on the inside. The ball itself is still solid tho
