Background
Myosin Light Chain 2 (MLC-2V) is a critical sarcomeric protein predominantly found in the ventricular muscle of the heart. It plays a significant role in regulating cardiac muscle contraction through its phosphorylation, which affects myosin cycling kinetics, torsion, and overall function. MLC-2V is part of the myosin complex, a hexameric protein that includes myosin heavy chains and light chains. Its specific isoform in the ventricle, MLC-2V, is essential for maintaining proper cardiac function. Mutations in the MLC-2V gene are associated with severe conditions such as hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and infant-onset myopathy.
