Tasting Notes
Appearance
Deep ruby with tawny hues and brilliant clarity, showcasing the wine's quality and maturation characteristic of this exceptional 1996 Hill of Grace from 160-year-old pre-phylloxera vines grown on the historic single vineyard in Eden Valley.
Aroma
Ethereal aromas of blackberry, raspberry, plum and date, with nuances of five spice, nutmeg, clove, cherry oak, leather and earth, creating a sophisticated aromatic profile that reflects the wine's excellent depth and seamless character.
Palate
Spiced plum and black olive are layered with hints of shiitake mushroom, crushed herbs and cedar, balanced by fine acidity, excellent depth and a long, seamless finish. The original Ancestors vines (over 125 years) are now approximately 160 years old and remain the heart of the Hill of Grace wine.
Pairs With
This ethereal Hill of Grace pairs beautifully with dry-aged beef, roasted rack of lamb, braised wagyu short ribs, wild venison, truffle dishes or aged hard cheeses, with the wine's fine acidity and long seamless finish making it an excellent choice for special occasions and fine dining experiences.
Hill of Grace is a unique, delineated, historic single vineyard that lies opposite a beautiful old Lutheran church, named after a region in Silesia known as Gnadenberg, translating to 'Hill of Grace'. Bottle aged in the Henschke cellar for museum release.
